    From dream cars that are nice to look at but potentially out of budget, to cars you actually might consider buying this year, what are the coolest and best quality metals on the market for 2022? We did some research…

  1. Porsche Taycan GTS

On sale: March 2022     Price from: £104,190

With a maximum power of 590bhp and 3.7 sec 0-62mph time (100km/h), the Porsche Taycan GTS sits between the 4.0 sec of the 4S and the 3.2sec of the Turbo. Boasting maximum speeds of 250 km/h (155 mph), the Taycan is out in three sleek body shapes, the Taycan, Taycan 3 Cross Turismo and Taycan Sport Turismo.

  1. BMW 2 Series Active Tourer

On sale: July 2022     Price from: £30,000

The new 2 Series Active Tourer may look much like the old 2 Series Active Tourer, however a small increase on size means the Bavarian family bus has more space for passenger, alongside some fresh infotainment technology. Prices start from around £30,000, with additional options that will bump up the price. There is the choice of four different engines – with a single diesel, petrol and plug-in hybrid option, as well as a choice of trims such as the racy-looking M Sport.

  1. Audi A8

On sale: March 2022     Price from: £74,985

The refreshed Audi A8 luxury saloon is hitting the market March ’22 with a subtle facelift, new styling features, advanced lighting technology and a top trim level. The A8 line-up comprises of three models, the A8, the long-wheelbase A8 L and the sporty S8.

  1. Peugeot 308

On sale: Early 2022     Price from: £24,000

The new third-generation version of the popular family hatchback, this Peugeot is available with a choice of petrol, diesel and hybrid efficient engines.

Standard technology includes Peugeot’s 10-inch driver’s display and 10-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android auto-connectivity.

  1. Ford Focus

On sale: Early 2022     Price from: £22,465

With a 2022 Ford Focus facelift, refreshed front end design and updated rear lights, a 13.2-inch infotainment system and automatic gearbox now available for mild-hybrid cars. There are a range of 1.0-litre petrol engines to choose from along with a 1.5-litre diesel engine.

  1. Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+

On sale: Now, first UK deliveries expected April 2022   Price from: £155,000 (oof).

Branded as the future of electric luxury, with 658 BHP (484 kW), Acceleration 0-62 mph in 3.8 seconds, and top speeds of 137 mph. With an expressive exterior sporting details such as the AMG-specific radiator grille, AMG spoiler lip and large AMG light alloy wheels and AMG brake system, and 64 colours of ambient LED lighting internally, the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ is a fashionable model.

This is a strong entry from the AMG line as their first attempt at an all-electric car, in the default setting the EQS 53 whizzes along in near-silence, but you can step things up a switch on a futuristic sound designed to reflect the high performance on offer. 

  1. Vauxhall Astra

On sale: Early 2022     Price from: £23,275

Loaded with the latest tech and with a sharp new look, the eighth-generation Astra is available with petrol and diesel engines, plus a plug-in hybrid option which offers up to 35 miles of pure-electric running, fuel economy as high as 256.8mpg and CO2 emissions as low as 24g/km.

In 2023 an all-electric version (Astra-e) will be going on sale.

  1. Land Rover Range Rover

On sale: Spring 2022     Price from: £64,685

According to Land Rover the new Range Rover is the start of the next era, but it also offers impressive features from the brand’s flagship design, it will be the last Range Rover to be offered with petrol and diesel engines, and the first to be sold as a fully electric car.

Five engines will be available in the new spring model: 355 bhp 3.0-litre petrols – which get a small amount of electrical assistance to improve fuel economy, as well as 246bhp and 296bhp 3.0-litre diesels with the same mild hybrid technology, and also a conventional 523bhp 4.4-litre turbocharged petrol v8. Shortly after launch, a 434bhp and 503bhp plug-in hybrids will be released and finally in 2023 the fully electric model will arrive.

  1. Mazda CX-5

On sale: Jan 2022 pre-order    Price from: £26,435

The sleek new Mazda CX-5 family SUV boasts enhanced driving dynamics, new styling and stronger grade differentiation, outfitted with a gloss black grille, signature wing, lower bumper and a paired set of 19” black alloy wheels. Coming in a GT Sport, Sport Black Edition, or Newground with brown nappa leather seats on certain models, and award-winning SKYACITV technology, it looks like the ultimate luxury family vehicle.

  1. Tesla Model Y

On sale: Early 2022    Price from: £54,990 long range/£64,990 performance model

With a range of 331 miles, top speed of 135mph and 0-60mph in 4.8sec on the long range model and range of 319 miles, top speed 155 mph and 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds on the performance model, the new Tesla Model Y is looking pretty sweet. You can also add in full self-driving capability, and enhanced autopilot, very futuristic. This model looks sleek and performance is ranked as high.

  1. Tesla Model S

On sale: Unconfirmed UK release – Late 2022    Price from: £110,980 (plaid model)

Reviewed as ‘so fast it will make you dizzy’ the Tesla Model S is zooming in at est. range of 405 miles, top speed 155mph and 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds. The plaid upgrade is billed as 396 mile range, top speed of 200mph and 1.99 sec 0-60mph – that’s fast. The plaid upgrades also include 1020 horsepower. This model presents as a longer, less compact vehicle than the Model Y, and looks incredibly smart with black 19” Tempest wheels. 

  1. BMW i4

On sale: March 2022     Price from: £51,905

The BMW i4 is essentially an electric 4 Series Gran Coupé and fierce rival to Tesla’s Model 3, with up to 536bhp, a maximum range of 367 miles and distinctive front grille. An attractive trade to EV.

  1. Volvo C40 Recharge

On sale: Early 2022 deliveries to UK     Price from: £44,800

The Volvo C40 Recharge is a sleek-styled coupé SUV, and is also available only as an eco-friendly electric car, with a leather-free interior. The vehicle has two motors, delivering more than double the power output of your family SUV, making it even faster than a Jaguar I-Pace. A fierce competitor in the 2022 EV space.

  1. Honda Civic

On sale: Autumn 2022     Price from: £22,730

The Honda Civic returns for its 11th generation with a newfound quality, a bit more space, and increased ‘comfort and fun’ behind the wheel. The engine is a 1.5-litre hybrid turbocharged four-cylinder, 178 bhp, and a sleek new 7-9inch infotainment system on the interior. We can expect to see this new Honda hitting our European market around autumn 2022. 

  1. Skoda Fabia

On sale: now, early 2022     Price from: £14,905

Geared to rival the Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Polo and Vauxhall Corsa, Skoda’s next-generation small hatchback is a competitive choice in the supermini section.

This model will be larger than its popular predecessor and the petrol engines offered are a 1.0-litre three-cylinder and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo. This model will continue Skoda’s reputation for space, reliability and value for money.
